Trent McDuffie, 25, will join the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for the 27th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, along with a 2026 fifth-rounder, a 2026 sixth-rounder, and a 2027 third-rounder. The Rams keep the 13th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft that they got from the Atlanta Falcons in 2025.
Trent McDuffie was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022 with the 21st overall pick and won the Super Bowl in his first two seasons with the team. The former Washington Husky was voted a First-team All-Pro in 2023 and Second-team All-Pro in 2024, thus establishing himself as one of the premier corners in the NFL.
In his four seasons with the Chiefs, McDuffie played 55 games and recorded 246 tackles, 34 pass breakups, 3 interceptions, 5.5 sacks, and 8 forced fumbles. McDuffie also posted 41 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 13 pass breakups and 1 forced fumble in 10 postseason games.
Los Angeles Rams General Manager Les Snead admitted in a post-NFL Combine press confrence press conference on Tuesday that they were open to a big-time trade involving one of their first-round picks in the upcoming NFL Draft.
“Is there an All-Pro that you could add?” Snead said to answer his own question about improving the team’s secondary. “That would be nice," adding later that they were planning to "attack" the cornerback position.
The Rams made it to the NFC Championship Game during the 2025 NFL season, in which they lost 31-29 to the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. The Rams' secondary was a cause of concern for Sean McVay and his staff, especially after a massive drop in performance in the latter stages of the regular season.
With three cornerbacks - Cobie Durant, Roger McCreary, and Akhello Witherspoon, all of whom were starters in the 2025 playoffs - hitting free agency, the time to pounce for the Rams was now.
It was believed that Trent McDuffie was on the trade block after the two-time All-Pro and the Chiefs couldn't agree on a long-term extension. McDuffie was in the final year of his rookie contract, but will now likely sign a long-term extension with the Rams, who'll make McDuffie one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the league.
