Sweden were outside the Quarter-final places after three matches in Fribourg, Switzerland, and needed to make a quick improvement, even though their two defeats so far were their toughest matches on paper, against Canada and Czech Republic.
An overtime win against the Czechs earlier in the competition proved Slovenia were not to be taken lightly, and fortunately for Sam Hallam, his side didn't take any chances, breaking the deadlock in the fourth minute when Carl Grundstrom's shot was saved, before Lucas Raymond fired in the rebound.
And Tre Kronor gave themselves breathing space with a second goal in the final minute of the opening period, as Linus Karlsson carried the puck around the Slovenia net before tapping it back for birthday boy Jacob de la Rose to apply the simple finish.
There was to be a second present for de la Rose six minutes into the second period, and again it was gifted by Karlsson, who was again working wonders behind the net to win possession and flick the puck back for the man playing on his home rink.
That goal opened the floodgates, as a minute later Oliver Ekman-Larsson spread the puck from left to right, where Robert Hagg was waiting to power home a one-timer, and after Jan Cosic was called for holding midway through the match, Raymond had all the time and space he needed to fire his second of the game following another Ekman-Larsson assist on the powerplay.
With less than three minutes to go in the second, Anton Frondell notched his second assist by teeing up Mattias Ekholm, whose shot had just enough on it to beat Zan Us and add a sixth for Sweden.
In the third period, Sweden kept plugging away with 14 more shots on goal, and though they failed to add to their total, the job was already well and truly done. Slovenia's nine efforts on goal in the final 20 minutes were more than they managed in periods one and two combined, but that only served to make Arvid Soderblom's shurtout more impressive, as he made 16 saves in all.
The 6-0 win means Sweden climb a place to fourth in the standings, as Slovenia stay sixth. Next up for the Swedes will be Italy on Friday 22nd, while Risi next face Canada on the same day.
