Harbaugh was recently fired from the Baltimore Ravens after 18 seasons, finishing the 8-9 season with a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers and ultimately missing the playoffs.
Several insiders have reported that Harbaugh and the New York Giants have agreed on a 5-year contract worth nearly $100 million, making the 63-year-old one of the league's highest-paid coaches.
"This is the New York Giants," Harbaugh told ESPN on Saturday.
"I’m proud and honored to be the head coach of this historic franchise, and especially excited to work with the Mara and Tisch families. But most of all, I can’t wait to get started with the great players on this football team to see what we can accomplish together.”
Baltimore Ravens OC Todd Monken, an often-named candidate in the current hiring cycle, is likely to follow Harbaugh to the Giants. The two have worked together since Monken joined the Ravens in 2023, during which time the Ravens posted two top-5 scoring offenses.
New York had been throwing the book at Harbaugh, including private jet flights, dinner, facility tours, and a meeting with quarterback Jaxson Dart.
23rd Giants head coach
The Giants finished the 2025 season with a 3-14 record. They were on the head-coaching hunt after the team fired Brian Daboll in November, following a 2-8 start to their season.
Harbaugh becomes the 23rd head coach in the Giants' franchise history, becoming one of the most prestigious ones to do so.
Harbs boasts a 180-113 record during his time with the Ravens, winning the Super Bowl to cap off the 2012 season. He would finish his tenure in Baltimore, the second-longest behind former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, who stepped down from the team, with a 2019 Coach of the Year Award, six AFC North titles, and still holds the record for the most road playoff wins by a head coach in NFL history with eight.
After signing him to a new contract extension before the start of the 2025 season, the 63-year-old Harbaugh was set to make around $17 million per year as part of the new deal.
