The New York Islanders shut out the New Jersey Devils, while Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy broke an NHL record in the team's win over the Washington Capitals during Sunday's slate of action.

New York Islanders 6-0 New Jersey Devils

Ilya Sorokin put up a 37-save shutout for the 30th of his career. He led the NHL with seven total shutouts last year and now has one in just two games. Six different players scored for the Islanders, including Bo Horvat's first as the team's new captain and rookie Victor Eklund's career first, who scored on his birthday as the whole crowd sang to him.

Tampa Bay Lightning 3-1 Washington Capitals

Vasilevskiy earned his 371st career win, marking the most by any goalie in NHL history through their first 600 games. The reigning Vezina Trophy recipient put up 20 saves while Jake Guentzel, Charle-Edouard D'Astous, and Conor Geekie all scored their first goals of the season.

Pittsburgh Penguins 6-5 Montreal Canadiens

After going down 5-1, the Habs erased the deficit with four straight goals, which included Cole Caufield's second of the game, sending the matchup into overtime.

Pittsburgh's Tommy Novak found the net to set the Penguins' win in stone as they now improved to 2-0-0. Nick Suzuki (MTL) led all players with four points (one goal, three assists).

Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 Philadelphia Flyers

In another overtime thriller, the Canes rebounded following their loss to the Caps. Sebastian Aho scored the first goal of the game in 10 seconds before the Flyers responded with two goals of their own.

Aho put up his second goal of the game five minutes into the third that sent the game to overtime, where Shayne Gostisbehere scored on a power play for his first goal of the season en route to a Canes win.

Carolina outshot Philly a whopping 40-18.

Ottawa Senators 3-2 Toronto Maple Leafs

Up in Canada, Kirill Marchenko scored his first goal as a Maple Leaf following the recent trade ahead of the season. But the Senators squeezed by thanks to a mid-third-period goal from Stephen Halliday for his first of the season. Thomas Chabot scored his first goal as the Senators' new captain, as both teams finished with 29 shots on goal.

Edmonton Oilers 3-1 Seattle Kraken

Staying in Canada, Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid each picked up a goal in the third period to take home the win. McDavid's assist on Draisaitl's goal was his seventh of the season - no other player has more than five.

Buffalo Sabres 4-3 Chicago Blackhawks

The Sabres had to rally twice after going down 2-0, then 3-2, to pull off the big win against Chicago. Rasmus Dahlin scored the equalizer in the third for his first of the season before Jiri Kulich shut the door with his first.

Buffalo outshot Chicago 28-15, while both teams combined for 0-for-5 on the power play.

Utah Mammoth 4-1 Columbus Blue Jackets

Leading 2-1 entering the third, Dylan Guenther and Nick Schmaltz both scored on the power play to put the game out of reach. Schmaltz scored twice to bring his season goals total to three, while Guenther finished with three points.

Utah outshot Columbus 31-18 and went 3-for-4 on their power play.

Nashville Predators 2-1 Dallas Stars

All three goals were scored in the first period before it became a goalie battle. Miro Heiskanen got the Stars started. But Steven Stamkos and Nils Hoglander each scored their firsts on the season, both on separate power plays.

Predators goalie Juuse Saros finished with 29 saves.

Minnesota Wild 4-1 Boston Bruins

Boston's Tanner Jeannot scored his first goal of the season to get things started before the Wild took that personally. They scored four unanswered, two from Kirill Kaprizov, en route to a dominant win.

Quinn Hughes and Jared Spurgeon both put up their first goals of the season, while goalie Jesper Wallstedt put up 26 saves.

Colorado Avalanche 6-1 St. Louis Blues

Martin Necas scored two of the Avs' six straight goals and tallied an assist to Cale Makar on his first goal of the season. Dalibor Dvorsky scored the loan goal for St. Louis. Avs superstar Nathan MacKinnon finished with three assists.

Colorado outshot the St. Louis 36-26 while both teams combined for 0-for-6 on the power play.
