The statistics around which clubs are most lethal in either half make for interesting reading and tell a story about their respective strategies.
In total, there have been 316 goals scored in the Betway Premiership this season, with 134 of those (42%) coming in the first half.
Orlando Pirates have been the most proficient side in the opening period with 17 goals scored, and they have netted the exact same number after the break too, for their joint season total of 34.
Sundowns have also scored 34 times, but their split is 15 in the first half and 19 in the second, which is not a huge difference.
Lamontville Golden Arrows are the third-highest scorers with 26 goals, 10 in the first period and 16 in the second. TS Galaxy are next with 24 goals, nine in the first half and 15 in the second.
The most dramatic difference can be found with Gallants, who have netted 16 times in total. Only four of those (25%) have come in the first half, but they are more lethal after the break with 12 goals (75%).
Durban City have scored only five of their 19 goals in the opening period (26%), showing they are also a strong second-half team.
Only three clubs have scored more goals in the opening period than in the second half – Polokwane City (10 v 6), Richards Bay (9 v 7) and Siwelele (7 v 4).
Outside of Pirates, the other clubs with a fairly even spread are AmaZulu (10 v 11) and Magesi FC (6 v 7), but for the rest there is generally a bias towards one half over the other.
Siwelele are the lowest scorers in the league with just 11 goals in 20 games.
