What the final Betway Premiership table might look like: who's on top and who is down

What would happen if the Betway Premiership clubs kept picking up points at their current rate until the end of the 2025/26 season, and would there be any change in the table?

The short answer is no, but it does illustrate that the smaller gaps we currently see between teams would become much larger.

To run the numbers, as Mamelodi Sundowns have 56 points from their 23 games, we can work out that they have collected 2.44 points per game. If we then multiply that by 30 games in a season and round it off, we get a total of 73 points at the end of the campaign.

It is all theoretical, of course, and football does not work like that, but if Orlando Pirates pick up points at their current rate they will finish with 69, meaning Sundowns would win the league by four points.

But where it really does show the difference is in the battle for third place.

In the scenario given, third-placed Kaizer Chiefs would finish with 57 points, a full eight ahead of fourth-placed AmaZulu. That is a huge gap, but in the current table the difference between them is only three points.

The rest of the top eight would be Sekhukhune United (48 points), Durban City (44), Polokwane City (43) and Lamontville Golden Arrows (39).

Stellenbosch FC (37) would miss out on the MTN8 for the first time since 2021.

Magesi FC (22) would still be propping up the division and be relegated automatically, while Marumo Gallants and Orbit College (both 24) could not be separated and would need goal difference to decide who finishes in the relegation play-off position.

At the moment, Gallants (-17 goal difference) are better off than Orbit College (-22).
