AGF got off to a rough start in the Champions League qualifiers, suffering a 1–4 defeat to Lech Poznan on Tuesday evening.
After the match, head coach Jakob Poulsen was asked if he was concerned about the quality of the squad, given that the club has not yet signed direct replacements for Felix Beijmo and Henrik Dalsgaard, who starred as key defensive players last season.
"What worries me is that we performed as poorly as we did today. I don't think I’ve seen any signs of that coming at any point (of our summer friendlies). It is obviously hugely disappointing—there’s no doubt about that," Jakob Poulsen told Viaplay.
Poulsen added that the Danish champions are continuously working on strengthening the squad.
"As I’ve said all along, CV (Carsten V. Jensen, sports director) is handling things in the background, maintaining good communication with me about what needs to be done. We’re keeping that internal, and now we have players in the squad who need to step up."
The return leg between Lech Poznań and AGF takes place next Wednesday.
