It took only eight minutes for the visitors to break the deadlock, with Danylo Sikan silencing the home crowd as he rounded off a rapid counterattack by stretching to poke home Yukhym Konoplya’s right-wing cross from near the penalty spot.
PSV responded, and Noa Lang was thwarted by goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk, who also pounced to his right to claim Ismael Saibari’s long-range drive, before denying Johan Bakayoko.
Those saves proved crucial as the Miners brilliantly doubled their lead before the break through Oleksandr Zubkov, who received the ball inside the area, shifted it onto his left foot and found the bottom corner with a shot that was cleverly bent around defender Ryan Flamingo.
Far from satisfied with their two-goal advantage, Marino Pusic’s side were a whisker away from a third after the break, when a Pedro Henrique volley from distance left Walter Benitez flat-footed and bounced narrowly wide.
At the other end, Pepi had a tame shot saved, before the visitors were reduced to 10 men, with VAR getting involved to dismiss Pedro Henrique for a lunging and out-of-control challenge on Bakayoko.
That gave Peter Bosz’s side a much-needed boost, and after piling the pressure on, the Peasants pulled one back late on, as Shakhar’s custodian inadvertently carried the ball over the line after diving backwards in an attempt to save Tillman’s deflected free-kick.
That set up a grandstand finish, and Tillman was far from done, as he levelled in the 90th minute with a quite sublime 25-yard strike that rifled into the top corner, much to the delight of the home crowd, who had been fearing a first home defeat of 90 minutes since November 2022.
Indeed, there was still time for Hirving Lozano to let rip from distance, only for Riznyk to make another flying save, but he was beaten for a third time deep into added time when Pepi scrambled home at the back post when a rebound deflected his way.
That signalled heartbreak for Shakhtar who saw their five-match winning run across all competitions come to an end, casting further doubt on their chances of reaching the UCL knockouts for what would be the first time in seven years.
