Goteborg entered the UECL at this stage at were looking to carry on a positive week that saw them climb out of the relegation zone, but a second win in four days failed to materialise against a Levadia side who hammered Caernarfon Town 10-0 on aggregate in the first qualifying round.
Brazilian forward Wendell scored one of those 10, but he needed only one half at Gamla Ullevi to increase his tally for the competition to three. Bubacarr Tambedou found him following a free-kick to open the scoring in the 33rd minute, before he combined with Joao Pedro to add his second in first-half added time.
The home side were at risk of heading to Tallinn with a mountain to climb, only to be given a real lifeline by Abraham Nwankwo, who turned the ball into his own net in the 92nd minute.
There was still time for Goteborg to make the second leg on 30th July more difficult for themselves, as a minute after scoring, August Erlingmark was shown a straight red card for a foul on Tambedou.
