Feyenoord's poor run started right before the winter break when reigning champions PSV convincingly beat Feyenoord 3-0. FC Utrecht (1-2) and Willem II (1-1) both took points away from the Champions League outfit as well.
A famous Champions League win against Bayern Munich (3-0) seemed to temporarily strengthen Priske's job security, but after losing to Lille (6-1), Ajax (2-1), and PSV (2-0), the club found itself in fifth place with twelve points less than PSV. Last Saturday's 3-0 win over fellow Rotterdam side Sparta couldn't save Priske's job, the club confirmed.
"Very mixed results and a lack of chemistry are reasons for the head coach's departure," Feyenoord announced on their website. "Assistant coaches Lukas Babalola Andersson and Björn Hamberg are also leaving the club with immediate effect."
"It is deeply disappointing for all parties that we have had to come to this decision," Feyenoord technical director Dennis te Kloese said in the statement.
"Although Feyenoord has certainly achieved appealing results with Brian in the UEFA Champions League, it has all been far too shaky in recent months and we unfortunately see too little structural progress."
Feyenoord continue their Champions League campaign this Wednesday (12th of February) with a home game against AC Milan. An interim manager will be appointed Tuesday, one day before the match.
"As a professional and as a human being, I still hold Brian in high regard," Te Kloese continued.
"Sometimes, however, you have to conclude that despite everyone's good intentions and good intentions, it doesn't work, and at a certain point there is no longer enough support within all sections to continue."
The 47-year-old Dane got appointed as Feyenoord manager in June of 2024 - shortly after Arne Slot left the club and headed for current Premier League Liverpool - and signed a 3-year contract in Rotterdam.
Horsens-born Priske got off to a hot start after winning a spectacular Dutch Johan Cruyff Shield after penalties over PSV, but couldn't replicate this form in the Eredivisie where he started with four draws in the first six games.
A 3-2 win away at LaLiga side Girona ignited a flame in the squad and Feyenoord went on to win eight of their next ten fixtures before coming away with a famous 3-3 draw away at Manchester City.
Priske leaves the club after having amassed 18 wins in his 30 games in charge. The Dane previously managed Danish side FC Midtjylland, Belgian Royal Antwerp, and Czech champions Sparta Prague.
