After starting off the season with two losses and a draw, Telstar manager Anthony Correia kept his starting lineup unchanged and started Soufiane Hetli in the striker position. PSV manager Peter Bosz followed suit and left Ivan Perisic in the point of attack with Ricardo Pepi not fit enough to start and Alassane Plea out for the rest of the calendar year.
A courageous start from Telstar saw PSV get under pressure as Hetli came close to working the ball into Matej Kovar's goal, but could not beat the rushing Czech stopper. Team-mate Patrick Brouwer tried some fifteen seconds after Hetli, but also found Kovar on his way to an opener.
Helti came close once again with an effort from distance in the fourth minute, but his shot whistled past Kovar's far post.
Tyrone Owusu, who was an amateur footballer for Quick Boys just two years ago, fabulously opened the scoring in Eindhoven with a missile into Kovar's top corner, which left the Czech rooted to the ground.
Second-half shock
Peter Bosz tried to force a change of pace with a trio of substitutions, with Joey Veerman, Ricardo Pepi, and Esmir Bajraktarevic replacing Guus Til, Ruben van Bommel, and Dennis Man during half-time.
Last week's hero, Bajraktarevic, got close first, but his shot after a swift solo effort went just wide of the post.
Telstar goalkeeper Ronald Koeman Jr. proved crucial for his side with a strong stop on an attempt from Ismael Saibari, who aired out his frustration by kicking the advertising board.
Koeman Jr. kept Telstar in the game once more by stopping a shot from Ivan Perisic, who saw his powerful effort from short range go out for a corner.
After Jeff Hardeveld nearly put Telstar up 2-0, Koeman Jr. whipped out a third crucial save when Ricardo Pepi found himself left alone in front of the son of the former Barcelona and current Netherlands boss. It did not matter in the end as the American striker was flagged for offside.
Instead of Pepi getting PSV alongside Telstar, it was Patrick Brouwer who, surprisingly, earned Telstar their two-goal lead from a corner, which the reigning Player of the Year at amateurs Quick Boys worked behind Kovar as he was left all alone in the five-yard box.
A strong attempt from Saibari narrowly missed Koeman Jr.'s goal, after which Hardeveld volleyed the ball wide of PSV's goal.
Telstar sent a shockwave through the entire Eredivisie by handing PSV their second home loss in the Eredivisie since November 2022, all the while grabbing their first Eredivisie win since 1978.
