Cercle Brugge has parted ways with head coach Lars Friis following a difficult start to the Jupiler Pro League season.

The decision has been made right after the club secured its very first league victory of the season with a 3–1 win against Royal Antwerp.

Despite that recent win, a meager return of six points from their opening ten matches left Cercle Brugge sitting second from bottom in the relegation zone, prompting the board to act. The 50-year-old Danish manager leaves the Belgian side just seven months after being appointed in March.

Cercle Brugge moved quickly to fill the vacancy, officially announcing Portuguese veteran Pedro Caixinha as their new head coach on a contract valid until June 2027.

Over his brief 17-game tenure at the helm, Friis managed five victories across all competitions, but the club's poor domestic form ultimately sealed his fate.
