Winners: Antoine Griezmann & Robert Lewandowski
Antoine Griezmann stepped onto the Metropolitano pitch on Sunday wearing the captain's armband and accompanied by his four children, and left it in tears, despite a 1-0 win for Atletico Madrid over Girona that was little more than anecdotal.
"My head hurts from crying so much," admitted the French striker after the moving tribute he received for his last home game before his summer move to Orlando in MLS. He leaves Madrid as a true Colchoneros legend, and as the all-time top scorer for Atletico with 212 goals.
Robert Lewandowski also shed a few tears at the final whistle of Barcelona's match with Real Betis, a 3-1 win for the already crowned champions of Spain.
The Polish striker was given a rousing ovation before, during, and after the match, with his country's flags displayed all around Camp Nou. He joined Barca when the club was in crisis, and leaves as a legend himself. "Barca fan for a day, Barca fan forever," declared the veteran to the crowd chanting his name.
Losers: Hearts
Scottish giants Celtic snatched the title from the clutches of Edinburgh's Hearts, who had been the surprise leaders since October, beating them 3-1 at a euphoric Celtic Park on Saturday during a hectic title showdown in the Premiership's final round.
Hearts' crushing loss was capped by Celtic fans invading the pitch even before the players had a chance to clear off. It was a heartbreaking end for the 'Jambos', who finished seventh last season but topped the league for almost the entire campaign in 2025/26, only to be overtaken at the very last moment.
Derek McInnes' side took the lead back in October and held onto it until the final day, suffering their first defeat of the season against Celtic after two wins and a draw.
And so, the wait continues - at least for another year - before the four-decades-long dominance of Celtic and Rangers finally comes to an end in Scotland.
Winners: Manchester City
Manchester City won the FA Cup final on Saturday afternoon by edging Premier League rivals Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley thanks to a goal from Ghana international Antoine Semenyo. The triumph means Man City have now lifted the famous old cup eight times, with only Arsenal (14 times) and Manchester United (13) having won it more.
In 10 seasons at the helm of City, manager Pep Guardiola has reached five FA Cup finals and has now won it three times. Adding to their League Cup victory in the winter, his side have now clinched a domestic double for the season.
Speculation abounds as to whether the Catalan tactician might leave the club this summer, and if he does, this might well prove to be his last piece of silverware in Manchester. Having said that, City are not out of the race for the Premier League title just yet...
Losers: Nice
Unable to beat lowly Metz on the final day, Nice now find themselves in the Ligue 1 relegation play-off and will have to fight for their top-flight survival in a duel against Saint-Etienne after their Coupe de France final against Lens.
The Aiglons, in 16th place, needed to win against the already relegated bottom side, while hoping for slip-ups from Auxerre and Le Havre. However, those two both won 2-0, away at Lille and Lorient respectively.
This situation frustrated the home fans, who invaded the pitch at the final whistle to protest against the season's poor results.
Winners: ETO FC Gyor
Just two years after returning to the top flight, Gyor have been crowned champions of Hungary for the fifth time in their history. By beating Kisvarda (1-0) on the final day, the club finished one point ahead of Ferencvaros, ending their seven-year reign over the league.
Relegated to the third division in 2015 for financial reasons, Gyor have made a spectacular comeback to the top table. This remarkable title also qualifies the club for the Champions League qualifying rounds, their first appearance in 12 years.
Loser: Alexander Ende
Alexander Ende endured a nightmare season in 2. Bundesliga after changing clubs at the worst possible time. Having started the year on the bench at Preussen Munster, he finished the season in charge of Fortuna Dusseldorf, but was unable to turn things around for either club...
The outcome was disastrous for the coach: Munster finished dead last in the standings, while Dusseldorf ended up second from bottom. As a result, Ende is now associated with a particularly cruel double relegation in the same season.
Winners: Telstar
In a decisive match for their Eredivisie survival against FC Volendam, with the score at 1-1, Telstar were awarded a crucial penalty in the 88th minute. Against all odds, the responsibility fell to goalkeeper Ronald Koeman Jr., son of the current Netherlands national team coach, who calmly converted the spot kick.
Thanks to this historic goal from their keeper, Telstar secured their place in the Dutch top flight for another season.
On the other hand, the late defeat cruelly condemned Volendam, who will now have to fight for their survival in the relegation play-offs.
Losers: Panathinaikos
Panathinaikos experienced a true nightmare on the final day in Greece. Despite holding a comfortable lead, the Greens completely collapsed, allowing PAOK to come back from two goals down and snatch a 2-2 draw, ruining their own ambitions in the process.
This monumental slip-up mainly benefited Olympiacos, Panathinaikos' historic and fierce rivals. Thanks to this unexpected draw, Olympiacos snatched up the qualifying spot for the Champions League preliminary rounds, to the great despair of the 'Pana' supporters.
