Torreense secured their first major trophy in their 109-year history when Cape Verde international defender Stopira scored the winner from the spot to give the football minnows an unlikely 2-1 win.
Before that, Kevin Zohi had put Torreense ahead already after three minutes, before Luis Suarez equalised for Sporting, who had won the trophy 18 times at the start of the second half.
Morten Hjulmand played all 120 minutes, and after the match, he was shaken by the team's effort.
"Right now, I'm speechless. We have to analyze the match. I think we lacked some attitude from our side, especially when we missed some passes and chances. That can't happen. It's part of football, but I think our body language could have been better today. That was my feeling during the match", Hjulmand said to Record.
"We wanted to celebrate with the spectators, the stadium was full, but it was our fault. We should have taken responsibility and tried to turn the situation around. We were not up to our standard of the last three years."
Morten Hjulmand and Sporting thus end the season without trophies, as Sporting also finished second in the Portuguese league.
