Lazio have now won just twice in 15 Serie A matches they have hosted (D9, L4) after they managed to salvage a dramatic 3-3 draw against Torino at the Stadio Olimpico.
Having been one of only two teams in the league yet to score a first-half goal this season, Torino were determined to break that trend early on. Cyril Ngonge tried his luck from the edge of the box, but Ivan Provedel – who made a joint-league high 20 saves before this round of fixtures – gathered easily.
The goalkeeper then parried Marcus Pedersen’s effort, but only into the path of Giovanni Simeone, who tapped home. That was his eighth league goal in nine to serve as the first or last of the match, including September’s winner over Roma at this very ground.
However, Lazio were determined to avoid their capital rivals’ fate and responded well through Matteo Cancellieri, who stung Franco Israel’s palm from distance as the ball rifled into the net.
Torino were still threatening themselves though, and Kristjan Asllani almost scored a wonder goal, as he teed up a volley for himself from distance, which Provedel had to keep out.
Cancellieri came to the rescue again for Lazio, though, as he cut inside and tucked a shot under Israel to give his team the lead before half time.
Given that Torino lost on each of the previous three occasions they had trailed in a league game at half time this term, they were determined to salvage a positive result here.
Ché Adams made no mistake with his effort, lashing home from inside the area. There was still time for the visitors to clinch a winner too, and they appeared to do so in dramatic fashion, as Saúl Coco headed home at the far post deep into stoppage time to break Lazio hearts.
Torino were now just moments away from only their second win in 13 H2Hs, but fate had different plans, as Lazio were awarded a penalty a remarkable nine minutes over the allotted stoppage time. Danilo Cataldi stepped up and slotted home to rescue a point for the hosts.
