After their impressive 2-2 draw against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Thursday, FC Copenhagen were handed a reality check when they, despite leading 3-1 at home against Silkeborg, were forced to settle for a 3-3 draw against the Jutland team and thereby lost ground on their closest rivals in the Danish Superliga table.
The reigning Danish champions were already caught cold after three minutes when a poor combination between a back pass and a tackle from Marcos Lopez allowed Callum McCowatt to steal the ball and put the visitors ahead with a clinical finish.
However, the home side quickly restored parity when Jordan Larsson scored, and when FC Copenhagen led 3-1 at the beginning of the second half thanks to further goals from Viktor Claesson and Mohamed Elyounoussi, it looked like a certain win for the home side.
However, a goalkeeper blunder from Dominik Kotarski allowed Silkeborg back into the game as Callum McCowatt scored his second of the afternoon. And with 15 minutes left of the game, McCowatt completed his hat-trick to give the visitors a highly unexpected point.
AGF recorded their sixth successive win when they won 1-0 against Brondby thanks to a penalty conversion from Kristian Arnstad, which allowed the Aarhus club to move two points clear of FC Midtjylland at the top of the table.
The Norwegian midfielder scored the match-winning goal after about 30 minutes, after he was brought to the ground when he was pushed in the back by Sean Klaiber, and after a lengthy VAR check, Jacob Sundberg gave the penalty.
Brondby seemed shocked after the goal, and the home side could and should have doubled the lead before the break when Patrick Pentz produced a wonderful save to deny Tobias Bech when he was put clean through.
The visitors intensified the pressure when coach Steve Cooper introduced Noah Nartey in the second half, but AGF stood their ground to earn yet another win and claim top position in the league.
Vejle haven't won a match in the Danish Superliga since 1 August, and their struggles at the bottom of the Danish Superliga seemed to continue when Maxime Soulas and Lirim Qamili gave Sonderjyske a 2-0 lead in Vejle after 30 minutes. But Stefan Velkov and Christian Gammelgaard restored parity to give the hosts at least a share of the spoils.
