VPS have climbed back into third place in the Veikkausliiga for the time being with an away win at Jaro, who remain three points inside the bottom two.

Jaro 1-3 VPS

Jaro had done their survival chances plenty of good in recent weeks, taking seven points from three games, but that run was ended last time out with defeat to Lahti. Having put themselves among the title contenders, a trio of defeats had suddenly put VPS' top-half hopes in jeopardy.

But easing those worries after two goals inside 16 minutes - Kevin Kouassivi-Benissan's low cross was touched on by Lassana Mane to Simon Lindholm, who gave the goalkeeper no chance. Then, Lindholm completed an early brace with another first-time hit following a low ball in from the left, this time from Jayden Turfkruier.

Having conceded a plethora of chances, home side were back in the match with just over 10 minutes of the first half to play, when Herman Sjogrell's curling ball in evaded the defence and was controlled and finished tidily by Oliver Kass Kawo.

Both sides had second-half chances to change the game, but soon after having a goal disallowed for offside, VPS wrapped up the points after a poor clearance from the goalkeeper was intercepted by Henri Salomaa. Rather than rush the chance, he squared to Yassin Daoussi, who drilled it home from 20 yards.

Five points now separate the Vaasa side from Lahti in seventh, though they have played a game more. Jaro can now go into the relegation group no higher than ninth.
