The 49-year-old Belgian-born manager selected headliners as PSG's Achraf Hakimi, who's recovering from a thigh injury sustained in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal against Bayern, and Real Madrid's Brahim Diaz, who missed a penalty in the African Cup of Nations final in January.
Ouahbi had no space for Eredivisie stars Souffian El Karouani (FC Utrecht) and Oussama Targhalline (Feyenoord), despite the former finishing second in assists with 12 and Targhalline finishing second in the league with Robin van Persie's Feyenoord after winning the starting job in both midfield and defence.
The squad called up by Ouahbi counts just eight players who finished fourth in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Among those absent is Al-Ittihad striker Youssef En-Nesyri, who scored two winning goals during the Atlas Lions' famous 2022 campaign in Qatar, when they became the first African team to ever reach the World Cup semifinals.
