The European qualification process doubles up as the league phase of the 2027 UEFA Women's Nations League (UNL), with the team coming top of the group qualifying for both the World Cup and the UNL Finals.
The teams finishing second, third and fourth in the League A groups are all guaranteed a World Cup Playoff place, even with the last-placed side facing relegation to UNL League B.
Having never missed a Women's World Cup, Sweden will be aiming to top the group and book their place in the most straightforward manner.
To do so, Tony Gustavsson's side will have to navigate opposition that knows them well, but opposition they have a good recent record against.
Sweden played neighbours Denmark three times in 2025, twice in the UNL and once at UEFA EURO 2025, winning all three matches. They also recorded a win and a draw in the UNL against Italy, before the Italians went on to reach the semi-finals at the EUROs, eclipsing Blagult.
Fresh from promotion from UNL League B, Serbia will provide a stern test, although Sweden won both their previous meetings.
Gustafsson believes his side will be prepared for the qualifiers, but the group will not be easy.
"We have a lot of video, a lot of fresh material from playing against these opponents before and quite recently. Rather, I see a stimulus and I look forward to starting to prepare. That's the feeling that takes over the most.
"We shouldn't think that it's an easy qualifying group. We should have respect for all opponents," he added.
The full list of fixtures is yet to be announced, with qualification set to begin in March 2026.
