Just like Sweden changed their coach after the European Championships in Switzerland last summer, their Scandinavian neighbours Denmark followed suit when Jakob Michelsen replaced Andrée Jeglertz after he chose to resign.
Michelsen's has launched a new style based on tactical flexibility, higher intensity, and a more modern and aggressive approach, which so far has worked wonders for Denmark, which still hasn't lost under the leadership of Michelsen.
The small revolution in the Danish approach has also been recognized by Swedish national team coach Tony Gustavsson, who says that Michelsen, in a short amount of time, has raised the Danish game.
"I am impressed by the work he has done. They are incredibly well organized. They are confident and skilled in the low defensive game and incredibly fast in transition with Pernille Harder", says Gustavsson to Fotbollskanalen. Gustavsson continues:
"They have systemized their ideas, they are clear in what they are doing, and get the best out of their best players," says Gustavsson, who says that Swedes' biggest mission will be to keep Danish striker Pernille Harder from Bayern Munich out of the game. "We have to stop the ball from getting to her and stop her with the ball, that will be the biggest challenge", he says.
Gustavsson is not alone in elevating Harder as Denmark's most important player.
"It is a tough national team to play against, and it will be like a derby. It is important to keep an eye on Pernille. She is a very skilled player and leads their team", says Brighton & Hove Albion striker Julia Zigiotti Olme.
The last time Sweden met Denmark on Swedish soil was in June last year when the Danes were thrashed 6-1.
"We know what Denmark stands for. But you can say that they have changed their way of playing, which will be exciting to see now that they have a new coach", says Fridolina Rolfö from Manchester United.
The home side will head into the crucial World Cup qualifier handicapped by the absence of Kosovare Asllani, Nathalie Björn, and, not least, Chelsea striker Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, who is nursing a calf injury.
The match will take place at the Gamla Ullevi in Gothenburg at 19.00 CET.
