For the 83rd-ranked Corentin Moutet, it was his first final since Doha 2020 and the second of his career. Moutet was the losing finalist in Doha, where Andrey Rublev beat the Frenchman in two sets.
For Tallon Griekspoor, who returned from an abdominal injury that forced him to withdraw from his fourth-round matchup with Alexander Zverev at the French Open, the final was his second of the year, following the ATP 250 tournament in Marrakech. The 35th-ranked Dutchman had the chance to win his third career title after wins in Pune and 's-Hertogenbosch in 2023.
At a hot Mallorca Country Club, where temperatures rose to 36 degrees Celsius, it was Moutet who first got to break point, just the ninth forced against Griekspoor all tournament, but the Dutchman recovered quickly and held onto his third service game by successfully playing service volley.
Griekspoor saved his best for last in a set without any breaks, forcing two set points on break point in the twelfth game. The Dutchman made good on his second after a strong return, and the first set was his after a highly aggressive net and service volley game, backed up by 13 won net points in 18 attempts.
The second set started off with a burst of frustration from Moutet, who smashed his racket after thinking he'd lobbed Griekspoor for the point, only for the Dutchman to volley it out of Moutet's reach.
With Moutet up 30-0 in Griekspoor's second service game, the Frenchman showed more signs of frustration after squandering his lead and conceding the game, dumping his racket on the ground and standing on it.
Griekspoor next got to break point, his first of the second set, in the sixth game after an excellent return game. The 28-year-old Dutchman couldn't convert after a strong second serve from Moutet. After desperately avoiding his backhand and hitting an unforced error, Moutet returned the initiative to Griekspoor, who couldn't convert on his second break point either and gave the game to Moutet.
Moutet stayed combative and got to two break points in the seventh game, but converted on neither after a daring second serve from Griekspoor, who gave Moutet his second break point after a missed volley. The Frenchman let a third break point go to waste before conceding another game after a fantastic low volley from Griekspoor.
Three championship points
The Frenchman refused to back down and was stable in his service games, winning 23 of 32 service points before letting Griekspoor go up 6-5 in the Dutchman's longest match of the week, surpassing the previously unseen 92-minute mark.
After a tight twelfth game, Moutet forced a tiebreak - the third of his Mallorca tournament. Unbeaten in those tiebreaks, which he all won 7-3, Moutet opened the potential decider with a conceded mini-break after a missed return. Down 3-1, the Frenchman hit an impressive passing shot on the tracks to get back alongside his Dutch counterpart.
A second mini-break for Griekspoor gave him another lead as he got back on serve and continued his aggressive net play, going up 6-3 to get his first of three championship points.
After a missed first service by Moutet, Griekspoor converted on his very first championship point to win his first ATP Tour title since 2023. The Dutchman exuded confidence, winning 32 of a staggering 47 net points against Moutet, and will return to the top 30 of the ATP rankings for the first time since July 2024.
Wimbledon
Moutet and Griekspoor will have a short period of rest before Wimbledon starts next week. Griekspoor will have a day's rest before meeting Eastbourne finalist Jenson Brooksby in the first round of the English Grand Slam.
The Argentine Francisco Comesana will be Moutet's opponent in the first round.
