22:21 CET - Veteran player Laura Siegemund has caused an upset to knock out Lucia Bronzetti in straight sets in Rome, winning 6-2, 6-2.
21:56 CET - An all-American thriller has been won by Learner Tien, who defeats Reilly Opelka in straight sets despite a second-set tiebreak that went on and on.
Tien would edge that 13-11 to book his place in the next round, winning 6-4, 7-6 (13-11).
20:52 CET - 18th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia is out in Rome. The Brazilian has been defeated by Marie Bouzkova 6-0, 6-3.
20:32 CET - Fifth seed Madison Keys was made to battle against Varvara Gracheva, but the American is through to the next round, following a 7-6(4), 6-1 victory.
Meanwhile, Jacob Fearnley continues his good year after seeing off Italian veteran and wildcard Fabio Fognini in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Also through is Pedro Martinez with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Mattia Bellucci.
19:48 CET - Elina Svitolina's impressive run of form continued in Rome this evening, with the 16th seed battling through a tough contest to defeat Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4, 7-6(2).
Elsewhere, qualifier Sebastian Ofner has progressed to the second round after his opponent Roberto Carballes Baena was forced to retire after losing the opening set 6-3.
18:39 CET - Third seed Jessica Pegula has booked her place in the next round after a convincing 6-4, 6-2 win over compatriot Ashlyn Krueger.
18:18 CET - Alexander Bublik and Matteo Gigante have progressed in Rome after straight-set victories over Roman Safiullin and Arthur Rinderknech respectively.
Meanwhile, on the women's side of the tournament, Hailey Baptiste is through after a hard-fought 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 triumph against 19th seed Liudmila Samsonova.
16:45 CET - An all-Italian duel between Luca Nardi and Flavio Cobolli, it's the wildcard Nardi who has come out on top, winning the encounter 6-3, 6-4.
16:17 CET - Sixth seed and home favourite Jasmine Paolini has progressed after a relatively routine 6-4, 6-3 triumph over New Zealand's Lulu Sun.
Elsewhere, Danielle Collins has seen off the challenge of Elena Gabriela Ruse in straight sets and Thiago Seyboth Wild is through after a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 victory against Nuno Borges.
16:10 CET - Jelena Ostapenko is safely through to the third round in the Italian capital after recovering from a dismal opening set to outlast Rebecca Sramkova 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.
15:26 CET - Back to the women's side of the draw, where 25th seed Elise Mertens has put her name into the next round after beating Suzan Lamens 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
15:03 CET - One of the stars of 2025, Brazilian teenager Joao Fonseca, is out of the tournament in Rome after he was defeated 6-3, 7-6(4) by Hungary's Fabian Marozsan.
14:49 CET - Elsewhere, Italian wildcard Federico Cina has put up a good fight against Mariano Navone, but the Argentine has made his way into the next round with a 6-3, 6-3 win.
14:35 CET - Peyton Stearns has continued her good form on European clay with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Anna Kalinskaya.
14:24 CET - After a disappointing semi-final exit in Madrid last week, world number two Iga Swiatek has begun her Rome campaign in typically devastating fashion, sweeping aside Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-1, 6-0 in just 54 minutes.
13:30 CET - Diana Shnaider clearly had somewhere to be in Rome, with the Russian not giving her opponent Caroline Dolehide a single game, winning 6-0, 6-0 in 51 minutes. She has now become the first player to claim back-to-back 6-0, 6-0 wins at WTA 1000 events, after she beat Anastasija Sevastova by the same scoreline in Madrid.
Jaqueline Cristian also claimed a really impressive win in the Italian capital, dumping out 23rd seed Yulia Putintseva, 7-6(2), 7-5.
13:14 CET - Naomi Osaka has secured a seventh consecutive victory on clay after recovering from a set down to defeat Viktorija Golubic 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 in Rome.
The four-time Grand Slam winner will face either Beatriz Haddad Maia or Marie Bouzkova next.
Meanwhile, Nicolas Jarry, Roberto Bautista-Agut and Aleksandar Vukic have all progressed on the ATP side of the tournament.
12:43 CET - Jesper De Jong is our first winner of the day in the Italian capital, with the Dutchman easing past Alexander Shevchenko in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
11:35 CET - Some disappointing news this morning as Paula Badosa and Petra Kvitova have had to withdraw from their matches today with injury, meaning Naomi Osaka will face lucky loser Viktorija Golubic, while Ons Jabeur moves through to the next round.
09:48 CET - Today's action in Rome gets underway in just over an hour, with ninth seed Paula Badosa taking on Naomi Osaka and Ons Jabeur coming up against Petra Kvitova.
