This marks only the second time in history that the Danish men's volleyball team will participate in the World Championship. The last time was in 1966, when Denmark qualified as a replacement team.
Consequently, this is the first time in history that a Danish men's national volleyball team has qualified for the World Championship based on sporting merit.
It is the national team's performance at the ongoing European Championship in Italy that has propelled Denmark high enough in the world rankings to make a World Championship spot a reality, according to Volleyball Denmark.
The European Championship results mean the national team has secured one of the 15 World Championship spots allocated via the world rankings.
"World Championship qualification marks a milestone in the ongoing development of the Danish men's national team over the past several years," the federation writes.
On Sunday, the Danish national team lost in the Round of 16 to the Italian World Championship hosts, who are also the reigning world champions.
Denmark was not given much of a chance in a tough preliminary group at the European Championship, but surprising victories over the Netherlands and Estonia, along with crucial set wins against Serbia, propelled the Danes into the Round of 16.
A total of 32 teams will participate in next year's World Championship in Poland. The tournament takes place in September.
