Bringing his career HR total to 318, the 36-year-old Perez needs just seven more to surpass Lance Parrish to move into fifth all-time among catchers. As it stands, Perez is under contract with the Royals through the 2027 season, giving him time to surpass New York Yankees legend Yogi Berra (336) and possibly Cincinnati Reds' Johnny Bench (356).
The Venezuela native is a nine-time All-Star, five-time Gold Glover, five-time Silver Slugger, a recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award for sportsmanship, and the World Series MVP when the Royals claimed the title in 2015.
After missing the entire 2019 season, Perez would go on to hit at least 20 home runs with 75 RBI in each of the next five seasons, including leading all of baseball with 48 home runs and 121 RBI in 2020.
The lifetime .261 hitter with a .751 OPS, 1790 hits, and 1059 RBI is destined for the Hall of Fame after he retires. He would become the last Kansas City Royals franchise player to enter The Hall since the icon George Brett was enshrined in 1999.
