The 22-year-old joins the Tractor Boys in a deal worth in the region of £20 million, making him one of the most expensive signings of Ipswich’s summer business as head coach Gary O’Neil reshapes his squad for a return to the Premier League after last season’s promotion.
Fatawu had attracted interest from a host of Premier League and European clubs, including Everton and West Ham United, as well as sides in France, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
Ipswich, however, moved quickly and decisively to secure his signature, with negotiations completed in time for the winger to link up with his new teammates on their pre-season training camp in La Manga, Spain.
The move brings to a close his spell at Leicester City that began when Fatawu joined the Foxes on loan from Sporting CP in August 2023, before signing permanently in July 2024 for a reported fee of €17 million.
He had two full seasons at the King Power Stadium, with a Premier League campaign in 2024/25 disrupted by a serious knee injury sustained in November 2024, ruling him out for the rest of the season.
He returned to full fitness for the 2025/26 season and produced arguably the best campaign of his career to date, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists in 44 Championship appearances for Leicester.
Despite that personal breakthrough, the Foxes were relegated to League One at the end of the season, a second consecutive drop, and one that made the sale of the club’s marquee attacker unavoidable.
O'Neil expressed enthusiasm about the signing of Issahaku, a player he believes adds quality to the Ipswich side.
"Abdul is a young player who has already gained good experience in the game and we’re excited to have him with us.
“He has strong physical and technical attributes, is comfortable on the ball and can test the opposition in one-on-one situations, so will provide us with good options within the squad.
“Having represented his country at the World Cup this summer, I know he is now looking forward to getting to work ahead of the Premier League season," he added.
Issahaku was included in Carlos Queiroz’s 26-man Ghana squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico and made four appearances as the Black Stars progressed to the round of 32.
The Suffolk club open the 2026/27 Premier League campaign with a home game against Sunderland on August 22nd.
